5 exercise mistakes you're making, and how to fix them
Congratulations, you've started an exercise program. Most
people never get that far you're definitaly ahead of the
game. Are you getting a return on all your hard work? I
know you're at the gym working hard a couple times a week
performing cardio and strength training

Despite being devoted to your new exercise regime, you
might not be seeing results simply because you're
exercising wrong. Being active, doesn't mean you're
training correctly. Those that are new to having a fitness
regime or are back on track after having had a sabbatical
from exercising might not even be aware that they are
actually exercising wrong.

Here are 5 Exercising mistakes that happen most often. 1.
Sticking to the same strength training routine: Doing the
same exercise continuously will cause your muscles too
adapt and your results will be very limited since training
stimulates a small number of muscle fibers. Challenging
your muscles from a variety of angles by adding or
alternating moves periodically, significantly works more
muscle fibers so that you develop more tone and strength.
For each muscle group, learn an additional 2 or 3
exercises, trying new angles and equipment. For example, if
you usually do the dumbbell chest press on a flat bench,
try it at an incline. If you normally use the chest-press
machine, try the dumbbell chest press or the bench press
with a barbell. Expand your repertoire enough so that you
can change your entire routine every 6-8 weeks.

2. Performing reps too quickly If you hurry through your
repetitions when strength training, you'll be using
momentum instead of muscle power, which won't give you the
results you want. By going too fast through each of your
reps, you won't get the same stimulus for muscle building,
and you won't burn as many calories. You'll also be more
susceptible to training injuries such as torn muscles or
connective tissue. To avoid going to fast, take 6 seconds
to perform each repetition: 2 seconds to lift the weight
and 4 seconds to lower it. (Since you have gravity to help
you lower the weight, you need to slow down even more on
this phase in order to give your muscles a sufficient
challenge.)

3. Exercising too hard, too often For some reason, people
think that non-stop exercising will lead to faster and
better results. However, your body needs to rest, and if
you go too hard, too often while exercising, your body
won't be able to adjust itself in order for you to see the
results you want. If you don't rest enough between hard
cardio or strength workouts, you'll stop making progress
and may even lose some of the fitness you've gained. You're
also likely to burn out on exercise. To keep your muscles
fresh and your motivation high, alternate shorter, tougher
cardio workouts (for instance, 20 minutes) with longer,
easier days (40-60 minutes). Don't go all-out more than
twice a week. Remember a higher intensity training session
will require more time for your body to recover. It's a
good idea to do a couple of tough workouts and take 1 day
completely off each week. For strength-training,  take at
least 1 day off between sessions that work the same muscle
group.

4. Getting too comfortable with cardio Becoming comfortable
with your cardio will hinder results. Sticking with the
same aerobic workout can sabotage your results as much as
pushing too hard. To truly boost your fitness (which
enables you to burn more calories with less effort), you
need to venture outside your comfort zone a couple of times
a week, to the point where you're somewhat winded and can
feel your heart pounding. Instead of zoning out or doing
moderate-intensity cardio all the time, mix in some
high-intensity intervals twice a week. For instance, after
warming up for 10 minutes on the treadmill, increase the
speed or incline for 30 seconds to 1 minute, then recover
with 1-3 minutes of easy-to-moderate exercise. Keep
alternating for 10-20 minutes, then cool down.

5. Lifting the wrong amount of weight This is a tricky one.
Many trainers don't like to give their female clients too
much weight when strength training since women usually want
to tone and not bulk up. However, if using too light of
weight, you won't see results. For the most significant
strength building, perform 4-6 repetitions per set; for
more moderate strength building, perform 8-12 repetitions
per set, choosing weights heavy enough that you struggle
through your final few reps, but not so heavy that your
form falls apart. If you get to your final rep and feel
that you could perform another one, increase the weight by
5-10 percent. You may find that when you've considerably
increased the amount of weight you're using, you'll drop to
fewer reps, which is fine, as long as your targeted muscles
are fatigued by the final rep. Lifting to fatigue (which is
what many guys do to bulk up) will not leave you with
monstrous muscles.

How to teach your baby to sleep through the night
You can teach your baby to sleep through the night more
easily than you may think. Follow the ten steps below and
see an instant improvement.

1 - Teach your baby to transition from awake to asleep by
himself. This doesn't have to involve lots of crying. By
following the next 9 steps, it will be easier than you
think.

2 - Establish a bedtime routine. At night time, this may
involve a bath, lullabies, a massage, sleep suit and
sleeping bag, cuddle with a baby comforter, followed by
milk. For naps, a shortened version of this, such as face
wash, nappy change, lullaby, baby comforter and cuddle is
all that's needed. Do everything in the same order each
sleep time and your baby will learn very quickly that it's
time for sleep.

3 - Follow a daily pattern. This doesn't have to be a rigid
schedule. Some days your baby will be hungrier than others,
or need more sleep. But a familar daily pattern that you
follow will help. Notice when your baby usually gets tired
and follow his lead. For example, your baby may become
tired for his first nap, earlier than you think - 1 hour,
or 1.5 hours after waking for a young baby.

Following this, he may have between 1 to 3 further naps in
the day, depending on his age. Get to know him, watch for
signs of fussiness or turning away from you, and put him
down for a nap. Within days an outline of a nap schedule
will have started to establish itself.

4 - Create the right environment. Would you like to sleep
in the middle of the kitchen? Give your baby a place to
sleep where he won't be disturbed, darken the room, put
some music or white noise on and find soft, comfortable
sleeping clothes for him.

5 - Awake time is important too. Offer lots of stimulation.
Daylight has been proven to aid night time sleep. So take
your baby out for walks in the fresh air, play with him,
and give him physical exercise.

6 - Don't let your baby become overtired. Most infants
shouldn't be awake for more than 45 minutes, increasing to
two hours by four months (although the first nap of the day
might still be 1.5 hours after waking).

7 - Make sure your baby is still AWAKE when you put him
down to sleep! This is the key, essential ingredient to
having a great sleeper. Help him become relaxed and drowsy
by following a familiar routine and then place him in his
cot when his eyes are still open. If he cries, reassure
him, hold him until he is calm again if you need to, but
when you put him back down, he should still be awake. As
long as he is tired, it won't take very long for him to get
the hang of it.

8 - Consider introducing a dreamfeed. This is a late feed
between 10pm and 11:30pm where you simply take your baby
out of the cot, feed him, and put him back to bed, without
waking him. This is useful because if your baby does wake
in the night, you will probably try ways to help him go
back to sleep without feeding him straight away, because
you know he's had that late feed.

A dummy, a cuddle, a reassuring pat in the cot... these
sorts of things will help a baby who isn't hungry to go
back to sleep. And don't worry, if your baby really is
hungry, he just won't go back to sleep, he'll probably
scream at the top of his lungs - you know the sound a
hunger cry!

9 - Be confident, feel good about yourself and what you are
doing. In the first two years of his life, you will help
your baby learn how to crawl, eat solid food, walk and
talk. One of our jobs as parents is to give our children
independence. Which means they can sleep on their own, walk
by themselves, develop healthy eating habits and later
enter the big wide world with confidence.

It's hard to imagine it now, but teaching your baby to feel
safe when going to sleep is just the first step on his road
to independence.  Your baby's senses are hyper alert.
Through his senses, he can pick up on what you're feeling.
Know that putting him down awake so that he goes to sleep
without your help is the right thing to do for everyone,
and he will respond to this by trusting in you.

If you're feeling like it's wrong, or selfish, or have any
anxiety about the process, he will pick up on it. And then
he's more likely to cry, making the process horrible for
you both. If it doesn't feel right, then don't do it.
Because your baby's instincts are so tied up with yours it
will be very hard for you both if do anything that goes
against what feels right for you. Relax and let your
feelings guide you and you and your baby will be happy.

10 - Make sure your baby's had enough to eat. Regular milk
feeds or solid food throughout the day should do this. But
if your baby is genuinely waking up hungry at 4am and he's
six months or over, you may need to look at fitting in more
calories in the day. The dreamfeed helps with this. As does
a seven o'clock start and a fairly regular feeding schedule
that suits your family and your baby.

And just one last thought. Teaching a baby to sleep doesn't
have to be hard, but it may take time. You need to know
your baby and be prepared to try and test different things.
Some babies like white noise, others like Mozart, some like
lullabies and others need complete silence.

Your friend's baby may sleep anywhere, whilst yours might
only be able to sleep in total darkness and peace. Through
trial and error and taking the time to get to know your
baby, you can create an environment where sleep is
important and where your baby learns to sleep well. And the
whole family will benefit from this.

Finding your purpose in life is one of those things that
not everyone knows how to do. We might think that we know
what it is, but in reality we keep wandering around without
any progress. Why is finding purpose so important? Let's

Without finding purpose we are like ships without a rudder
or sail. We basically just float around the sea of life
going wherever the ocean takes us. When a big wave comes

In communicating with consumers, it is important to provide

to say "thank you" for that loyalty. On the other hand,
consumer promotions are merely used to entice the price

5 Ways to Overcome Self-Doubt When Manifesting Your Dream!
Have you ever wanted to create something in your life that
was a bit out of the comfort zone and found that you had
talked yourself out of it almost as quickly as the idea
entered your mind?

Perhaps you were excited about the idea when you first had
it - "I'm going to have an amazing relationship!", "I'm
going to find a job I love", "I'm going to live with a
greater sense of peace"... then what???

That little voice of doubt shows up. "I'm not sure I am
capable of doing that", "I might fail", "Maybe I should be
content with what I have", "What if I'm not good
enough?"... sound familiar?

Why is it that even the dreams that mean the most to us can
so easily be crushed by a single doubt?

Maybe it is time you overcome this self-doubt so you can be
free to create what you really want!

The truth is, if you want to create something that is
beyond your current "normal", you will likely have some
form of self-doubt to overcome. When you find self-doubt
coming up, realize that it is natural and does not mean
that you are not capable of manifesting your dream - It
just means that you're human!

So how do we put this self-doubt in the back seat and take
charge once again of the path toward our dreams?

Here are a few helpful tips when you find yourself coming
across self-doubt:

1. Let go of the need to know HOW you will create your
vision of what you want.

You likely do not know how you will create your dream,
especially not in the beginning.  That is the way it is
supposed to be!  Your intuition is how the Universe shows
you the way to your dream! We often end up doubting
ourselves when can’t see how we can create what we
want. Or, sometimes we think of one way that to create it
and think that we aren't capable of doing it. Let go of
this kind of thinking and trust that if you have a vision
that excites you, you have within you what it takes to
create it.  And trust that you will be given what you need
to make it a reality, when you need it.

2. Remind yourself of how important your dream is to you.

Give yourself 5 to 10 minutes of free time to spend
focusing on your vision of what you want and how you will
feel when you have created your dream. Let yourself feel
these positive emotions and imagine that you have already
created what you want and are living your vision. Let
yourself get excited, these positive emotions will energize
your vision and allow it come to you faster. This reminder
of why your vision is important to you can help you set
that doubt aside.

3. Be a witness to the voice of self-doubt.

As you notice the voice of doubt coming up, watch the
thoughts that come up rather than participating in
Recognize that it is the voice of the part of you that
wants to keep you the same and to keep you in familiar
territory. Distancing yourself from this voice can help you
to gain perspective so you are still in charge and the
doubting self is not. Release the need to fight it, simply
allow the doubt to be expressed and move on.

4. Get the doubts and fears down on paper and out of your
mind

In your mind, they tend to endlessly repeat themselves and
keep you stuck. Get out a piece of paper and write out all
of the doubts and fears that come to mind. On a new piece
of paper write down positive statements around why you CAN
create your vision. Maybe you are downplaying your
strengths and abilities, list these on this paper as well.
When you are done, read over the doubts one last time, then
tear the paper into tiny pieces and throw it away. Read
over your positive statements and let the positive emotions
and a feeling of confidence take over. Feel free to read
these positive statements whenever you need to remind
yourself that you are capable!

5. Repeat a personalized affirmation to yourself

This will instill positive beliefs around your ability to
create your vision. Make sure the affirmation feels good
when you say it is meaningful to you. The better you feel
when you repeat it, the faster it can become your reality.
Examples: I believe in myself, I deserve to have what I
want, I am safe, etc. whatever resonates with you.  You can
also use the positive statements you created in #4 above.

Self-doubt is likely something that you will face on the
path to your dream, but that is no reason to stop moving
forward.  Take a few minutes to readjust your focus using
the tips above and you will be feeling better and more
confident, ready to move forward to your dreams once again!

What You Need To Make Money On The Internet
Online business opportunities are a little scary. Just
think about it. You're planning to invest your time and
money, and you certainly don't want to choose the wrong
company to help you.

If you do a search online, you'll find thousands of
opportunities just waiting for you to sign up. Where did
these all come from? How do you know which one will give
you all the tools, help, and support you need to get up and
running?

I recently went through this entire process. It can be
truly overwhelming without knowing some of the questions
you should ask before you make a decision. As a Christian I
wanted to work with a company that not only talked a good
game, but was able to show me they were an honest company
who would truly do what they said they would do.

Where Do I Start?

My first concern was that I had very little experience
building a website. I was able to check my email and search
for something online, but that was the extent of it. I read
countless ads for companies claiming to "build a website in
15 minutes" or "be making money in as little as 24 hours."

The trouble was....I couldn't see any backend support. I
couldn't see anything except a template that someone built
and now they were trying to convince me this should be the
basis for my online business.

What about all the continuous building and changing that
happens on a website? Did I have to take a bunch of HTML
classes just so I'd know how to do all this stuff?

My second concern was whether the search engines would find
me. I remember wondering how the entire process worked and
who was going to teach me. There are alot of companies that
promise they can help in this area. I just didn't have a
clue about which one to use or how to go about evaluating
these kinds of companies.

And then of course, I wanted to know if my business would
be profitable. Finding the right niche is a huge part of
your ultimate success, or lack thereof. Of course, there is
never a guarantee, but at least I wanted to know I was on
the right track. I couldn't imagine where to even start
looking for answers about this one.

And the Answer is...

After it was all said and done, I arrived at some very
specific things to look for as you're choosing the right
company:

Tip: Choose a company that can handle everything from start
to finish, no matter your own strengths or weaknesses.
Trying to piecemeal the site hosting and building from one
company and then the search engine optimizing from another,
and the other things you need like building a newsletter
from yet another, will most certainly make your life alot
more complicated.

Tip: Choose a company with a proven track record. What kind
of results are their current clients getting? Are they
willing to show you the number of their sites that are
succeeding? You can bet they have an idea about how many of
their sites fail and why.

Tip: Choose a company that gives you the tools to build
your site that doesn't require you to have a PHD in website
building. There is a tremendous learning curve in the very
beginning, so just make sure you're working with a company
that provides the structure to build your site as you learn
so you're not stuck for long periods of time in that
learning curve.

Tip: Choose a company that allows all their site owners to
talk to each other in an open forum. Check to see how often
their forums are frequented. Ask for a guest pass so you
can get the real flavor of the company.

Tip: Choose a company that gives you 24 hour/7 days a week,
online technical support. There is nothing more difficult
than trying to resolve a problem and your only option is to
pay some expert somewhere to give you the guidance you need.

Tip: Don't purchase unless you are very sure about the
company's refund policy. Choose a company that will let you
try things out on a trial basis. Get your feet wet and see
if the company you've chosen is really the one that will
help you get where you want to go.

While it's true that no company can do it for you, it's
also true that you can certainly help increase your odds of
success if you choose the right company to help you.
Working with a company that is honest and will stand behind

5 Sure-Fire Ways to Silence Communication With Your Teenager

Here is a step by step process for hindering communication
with your teenager:

1)  Don’t listen to them

Teenagers love to be interrupted. They thrive on it because
they know that what you say is by far more important than
their own thoughts.   In fact, a lot of teenagers I counsel
tell me they wish their parents would just stop listening
to them all together, and shut down any dialogue and
replace it with a parental monologue.

Parent Tip:  I firmly believe that a lot of people are
unaware when they are interrupting another person.
Interruption seems to be a cyclical pattern.  Since no one
listens to one another, they must interrupt the other
person so they can be heard.  Give your teenager permission
to tell you when you are interrupting.

2)  Play their favorite game with them:  Assumptions

A teenager’s favorite pastime is to play Assumptions with
her parents.  You remember how it is played:  One person
presupposes they fully know what the other person is
thinking and feeling.  There is no reason to inquire if his
hypotheses are correct, because he can guarantee he knows
what she is thinking.  Sometimes, for fun of course, he
will even tell her what she is thinking with the intro of
“I know what you are going to say…..”

Parent Tip:  Assumption is the end of communication in any
relationship. No one can read another person’s mind, or can
know exactly what the other person is going to say.  Listen
intently to what your teenager is saying.

3)  Name calling

Earning respect with teenagers always starts by calling
them names. This has been tried and true. Usually the name
calling begins when there is a heated argument that
escalates and has been derailed from the original point of
conversation.

Parent Tip: Remember to stay focused on the original topic
of discussion and need for conflict resolution.  It will
help promote conflict resolution and prevent getting off on
tangents.

4)  Yell at them

This is one that really helps teenagers.  Not so much for
the improved communication effect, but for sheer
entertainment.  Teenagers go over the moon when their
parents raise their voice fifteen decibels above normal
tone.  Although, a lot have requested that their parents
wait so they can go out and get some popcorn before the
show starts.  Just passing along the request.

Parent Tip: Do whatever you need to do to remain calm both
for your sanity and theirs. Count to ten.  Take a break and
resume the conversation later.  Go for a brisk walk.

5)  Beat a dead horse

This skill is also known as the Lecture.   It is probably
the most popular and most implemented amongst parents.
Teenagers usually will stop whatever they are doing so they
don’t miss out on this.  The combined essentials of
redundancy and endless time limit makes them cheer and keep
coming back for more.   They really enjoy this special
quality time their parents take as an outlet to express
their feelings and the intensity of their frustration.

Parent Tip: Prioritize the major issues and then say it.
The longer you talk and review the same issues, the greater
the chance they will tune out.

Obviously, these are said with a humorous tone.   And it is
probable that most of these occur in almost every
household, if parents are honest.  Communication may sound
easy, but is difficult because it is easier to talk to a
person, than to listen to one another. With some practice,
you and your teenager can be on a new road to improved
communication.

One of the biggest mistakes that I see service business
owners make is taking on as a client anyone who has a 98.6
degree temperature who can pay them money.  This is
especially prevalent with new service business owners, as
they are willing to do almost anything in order to land
that first couple of clients.

Invariably, what they quickly discover is that their
practice is full of a bunch of clients with whom they hate
working.  Does this sound like you?

Turning away clients who aren't a good fit and waiting for
the right client can actually increase your bottom line.
How do I know that this works and how difficult it is to
remain true to the principle?  Because, of course, I used
to be one of the biggest offenders of this strategy.  It
was only after several not-so-positive experiences in bad
client selection that I decided to listen to what I had
heard to be true about waiting for the right client but had
never personally experienced.

During this time, the tapes in my head kept playing and
telling me that I was nuts for passing up business.
However, I resolutely hung on, trying with all my heart to
believe that adhering to this concept was going to work for
me. It was about a year or so into my business before I
discovered first-hand how well this principle does work.

I had been approached by a motivational speaker to help him
with his Internet marketing plans. We hit it off, and
because I didn't quite follow his description of his unique
presentation style, I requested that he send me a tape of
one of his performances. I received the tape a few days
later, and after watching it, quite frankly thought it was
one of the most unmotivational performances I had ever
seen.  I knew that it would be a struggle for me to help
him with his marketing, since I didn't believe he was
especially talented in his chosen field.

This was a time in my business when I could have really
used the cash. The speaker and I had hit it off pretty
well, and he wanted to promote himself in the college
student activities circuit, which was my previous career
background. I went back and forth numerous times during
that weekend, trying to decide if I should agree to work
with him, thinking that I'd make the best of it and it
wouldn't be that bad. Finally, I had to have a very harsh
conversation with myself, saying that if I were this
indecisive, I needed to decline the offer and I needed to
suck it up, get over, tell him "no", and move on.

Long story short, I called and told him that I didn't think
we were a good fit. About 2 weeks later, I was called by a
prospective client who'd been referred to me about 6 months
earlier by a current client.

At the time of the initial referral, I was really busy and
didn't have the time or need to follow up with him. Now,
however, was the perfect time. We spoke and I discovered he
was doing some really cool things that were quite exciting
to me and that I had the perfect skills to help him elevate
his marketing. One additional conversation later, we
decided to work together and he remained my client for
about two years.

This experience was my light bulb moment, to quote Oprah
Winfrey. Had I decided to work with the unmotivational
motivational speaker who wasn't a good fit, I would have
had no room in my practice for the perfect client to come
along two weeks later. Talk about being whacked between the
eyes!

So, then, how do you determine who's the right, or ideal,
client for you?  Make a checklist of your idea client
qualities, which will ultimately serve as your client
screening device.  Here are some questions to get you
started:

1.  What are their beliefs?

2.  What values do they hold dear?

3.  What is their work style?

4.  What industries are they in?

5.  What are the traits and qualities of great
colleagues/bosses/friends that made them enjoyable to work
with or be around?

6.  Are there foundational issues that need to be in place
before someone is ready to work with you?

7.  What traits and qualities of past clients have driven
you crazy?

Once you have answered these questions to your
satisfaction, bring up the most important issues in your
introductory conversations with prospects and put those
issues out on the table where they can't be ignored.
Discussing these issues with prospective clients is the
only way to ensure that they fully understand what it means
to work with you and what's important to you, and you get a
better picture of how well they fit your ideal client
profile.  If your gut tells you that's it's a poor fit,
move along to the next prospect.

Whether you have to take it on faith or constantly talk
yourself into adhering to this belief, waiting for the
right client is absolutely the right thing to do and will
ultimately increase your bottom line.

one that requires careful planning and preparation.
Unfortunately, many aspirants dropped out from their day
jobs and plunge into business only to find that they're
actually not ready for the challenges.

Achieving Goals and the All-Important Persistence Factor

Achieving goals requires persistence! Yes, you often need a
good plan. You obviously need strong desire. Practical
steps need to be outlined and probably a written mission
statement to clarify your thoughts also is a big help.

But all those well known goal setting steps could fizzle
into oblivion if it was't for the last crucial ingredient -
PERSISTENCE! Here's the proof: Ty Cobb set an amazing
record in baseball in the year 1915 by stealing 96 bases.
Seven years later Max Carey set the second-best record with
51 stolen bases.

Does this mean that Cobb was twice as good as Carey?
Consider this: Cobb made 134 attempts. Carey made 53. So
Carey's average was much better. Cobb however made 81 more
tries and was rewarded with 44 more stolen bases.

Frank Bettger makes this strong point on page 238 of his
fascinating classic: How I Raised Myself From Failure To
Success In Selling. When you get behind the big success
stories in any given field, you often find the most
successful have made more attempts and spent longer hours
at the given task than anyone else.

In other words, they give the law of averages a chance to
work in their favor! They just keep going, striking out
against all odds.

With achieving goals, this sterling quality of persistence
and its bed-fellow perseverance, is absolutely essential.

Yes the previous six steps are also essential and crucial
BUT, if you do not persist, your wonderful plan can go down
the drain. Your vivid mental images can just evaporate into
thin air. Achieving goals simply becomes wishful thinking.

Achieving goals requires that you keep at it day in day
out. Then you are GUARANTEED results - eventually!

Mental Toughness

To maintain this kind of momentum you have to develop
mental toughness. To be mentally tough means you minimize
the effects of discouragement and you turn negatives into
positives.

Jack Black, in his illuminating book "MindStore", uses a
computer expression to combat negativity - "Delete that
Programme". Whenever a negative thought comes into your
mind or when others make negative comments, say to
yourself, "Delete that Programme" and replace it with a
positive thought.

For example, when you catch yourself thinking, "This is
just not working, this is useless and a waste of time",
trigger mental toughness by saying "DELETE THAT PROGRAMME".

Instead think: "What do I need to do to make this work!"
Admittedly, negative mental habits are hard to break. It
takes time and persistence but oh, the rewards when you do!

The Remaining 90%

Do we understand then why the title of this article
emphasizes the importance of sheer persistence? It
basically comes down to that. Just keep on going, persist,
persist, persist, and let the good old law of averages work
for you.

Achieving goals WILL become your reality!

Four people on four different street corners witness the
same traffic accident.  The police arrive and ask each of
the four people to describe what happened. And get four
different versions of how the event happened.

Which of the four witnesses is right about what happened?

All of them.

And none of them.

The same is true in life.

How we view ourselves, our world, and the events of our
lives depend upon our viewpoint. The proverbial lens
through which we see creates this viewpoint. The lens is
the system of beliefs, expectations, and presuppositions we
hold.  You use this lens when you evaluate your
circumstances and opportunities.

For example, let's say two people walk into an audition for
a leading role.  Both are rejected with equal harsh
criticism for their character portrayal and delivery.

One actor returns home, depleted, and validates his belief
that he'll never make it as an actor. He gives up his dream
of a theatrical career and sets about finding a 'real' job.

The other actor returns home and quickly writes down the
critical remarks.  He studies the remarks and adjusts his
performance.  He rehearses and rehearses and rehearses the
scene applying what he has learned from the botched
audition. He then either secures a second audition with a
better chance of winning the role or goes on to the next
audition better prepared.  He knows, with certainty, that
he'll make it as an actor and that failed auditions are
opportunities to learn and improve his craft.

Where one person sees limitation, the other sees
opportunity.

Two different artists get up in the morning and read the
same newspaper.  One sees nothing but gloom and doom.  The
economy is in the toilet, job losses escalate, the auto
industry is bankrupt and banks are failing. She crawls back
into bed with a defeated outlook.  Why paint?  The economy
is so depressed no one is buying art these days. Why
bother? And after days and days and days of not painting,
she gives up on his art, gives up on herself. She leads a
life of quiet desperation.

The other artist puts down the paper and is more determined
than ever to paint. Art is inspiration. Inspiration begets
creativity. Creativity begets abundance. She knows that
even in a depressed economy, people still buy art.  People
want to surround themselves with beauty, art, and
inspiration. She knows that when she's painting she feels
good about herself and her life. World events do not
control how she feels.

Life's plans can be changed by a bear market. The question
now is, how should we proceed from here. If you're like
most investors you're asking yourself, what can I do now.

Have you ever made an investment and suddenly you don't
know why? To top if off, the investment shrinks in value.
You sell, realize the loss and ask "What was I thinking?".

Experience will be a reliable guide. Unfortunately, many of
us have to acquire experience personally. This means three
things occur:

1) We lose money,
2) We lose time and,
3) We realize we need to know more.

To the point (s); I've had the opportunity to meet some
extraordinarily talented people in the thirty six plus
years I've worked in the investment business. If you find
the challenge of managing your investments of great
interest and entertaining, there are advisors that focus on
providing actionable information to clients for execution.

In general, Three Points Can Save Your Investments.

1. Improve your understanding of the relationships that
drive markets. If you could see the impacts that one market
has on another market and could see then what the result
would likely be, would this information be helpful to you?

2. Suppose you felt you could significantly improve your
investment results if you had what you considered a
reliable signal that would tell you if the stock market was
going up or down. Not minute by minute, but up over the
next few weeks. If you could find such a signal and the
market suddenly dropped, you could buy confidently while
everyone else was selling.

Why would this be of value? Think about it. When do things
become "cheap", less expensive? The answer is when no one
wants to buy. If you had 80 to 85 percent confidence, what
would be possible with a reliable signal like this?

3. Suppose you were able to tighten this up even a bit
more. Suppose you could take advantage of the daily market
movements, working specifically inside a mid-term trend on
a short term basis. Would it be helpful to you to know the
odds of success for a particular trade before you entered
it? (Remember, this is based on past data, which is no
guarantee of future results)?

Imagine the market has started to move higher. Based upon
daily research, an opportunity presents itself which based
on past data suggests a 64% probability of success if you
sell the market at the open and buy the market at the
close. How many times have you watched the market open
significantly higher only to close in the trash can?

Specifically, three points:

The Broad Overview.

Imagine for just a moment that you observe certain markets
interacting and that this interaction when viewed
previously had a future positive impact on the S&P 500 -
the stock market, as an example. Following your
observation, you now know generally what to expect will be
developing. As the relationship between markets evolves,
you can see it is likely the market will move... higher (as
an example).

The Medium Term

Next, you go to your highly reliable signal and see if it
is in agreement or not. At first, this signal may disagree
with the broad overview, but remember, all things take time
to develop. After a while, the highly reliable clicks
positive. It says "Buy".

Short Term

A trend develops, the market's internal dynamics indicate,
the market is now in an overbought or oversold position. If
you wish do some extra work, using a portion of your
account you can now execute a short term trade inside the
medium term position. You are now mining the market trend.

Can you execute with confidence? Yes. You have a basis for
your decision making that has been tried and tested. This
process takes patience and persistence, but it can be
highly rewarding.

If executing your own trades is too cumbersome to your
lifestyle, you may find that you want an advisor so that
you don't personally have to devote your waking hours to
the task of trying to manage your assets.

Some managers can design personal investment portfolios
that can greatly reduce risk and produce attractive gains
while keeping clients comfortable, confident and happy in
the financial aspect of their lives. These clients stay
clients of the advisor generally for as long as they live.

These clients benefit from the advice of an advisor and
they usually have him/her fully manage their accounts. They
typically will also benefit from investment tax planning
that helps to deliver long term capital gains while
maintaining a pool of selectively and surgically harvested
losses that be brought forth for use as the client's tax
situation dictates.

How does one get to know an advisor? There are listings and
there are brochures. However, if you want to feel
comfortable in your relationship with your advisor, you
must know him/her or their company. You should watch and
witness firsthand their work and the results it produces.
Once you have had that experience, you can then move
forward confidently into the relationship.

How long does it take to get to know an advisor? Sometimes,
it can take years. Then again you can go on a hurry up
campaign, but if you do, you may end up asking yourself...
What was the question....? Oh yes, "What was I thinking?"

In the world of investing, will you be 100% successful? No.
Nothing involving risk in the investment world is 100% or
guaranteed. Tomorrow is always tomorrow so it's different
from yesterday or today. However, you can use experience to
put the odds of success on your side. If your money manager

If you are not following a sales process, you are not in
control. Consider this - a sales results process that is as
simple as ABC.

A.  You cannot build anything without a solid foundation
and the same applies to the sales process.  The A in the
ABC Sales Results Process is for Attitude - the foundation
of all successful salespeople. Without a positive attitude
and belief in you, there is no foundation upon which to
build a successful organization, or winning products and
services or benefit from market growth.

Sales professionals need a process to reflect, confirm and
take hold of their attitude. It is realizing you have the
ability to turn your proletarian attitude into a
millionaire's attitude.  It also assists in overcoming fear
and dealing with rejection. As part of the essential
process, a millionaire's attitude will help increase
productivity and save time and money.

Salespeople need a sales process that will reflect an
owner's mentality and will uphold the organization's
mission statement, endorse the products and services and
provide clear direction for team members.

They also need to reflect, confirm and take hold of their
attitude toward the market. A well thought out process will
reveal how they are perceived while profiling the ideal
prospect. It also allows a complete understanding of the
competition and a compassionate attitude.

B.  Salespeople should have a sales process based upon an
optimistic, positive attitude; however, such an attitude is
not enough to guarantee long term success. You need goals
and an action plan to get you where you want to go. The B
in the ABC Sales Results Process is for Behavior - the
daily actions required to accomplish goals.

A sales process which includes personal and organizational
goals also requires attuned behaviours. The entire process
involves market targeting. There is no motivation, no
ownership mentality and no drive to go the extra mile if a
process disregards goals and behaviours.

Salespeople need to study the relationship between
consistent, positive behaviours and success. The first step
is learning this on a personal level. They also call for a
process to identify and develop personal goals. They need
it to develop an action plan based on the reason they come
to work everyday.

They also require a process to track equivalent procedures,
to increase goals, to expand action plans and to acquire
behaviors for organizational objectives. A progressive
sales process will consistently improve upon time
management skills.

One thing for sure, they need to be familiar with "how to"
target their sales efforts through the 80/20 rule. A sales
process will implement the ABC target model while obtaining
pertinent industry, organizational and client information.

C.  Traditional sales training has placed all its efforts
on sales techniques. In this ongoing, non traditional
process approach the C in the ABC Sales Results Process is
for Competency - the capability of following a process
utilizing appropriate sales competencies to build and
maintain long term relationships.

There are no meaningful results and valuable time is wasted
without the implementation of a sales process and without
competencies.

The ABC selling process is simple. In order to build a long
term relationship, one must first establish a strong
rapport. Salespeople need to learn about the relationship
selling model, the components of the rapport pie and how to
build rapport in the first 30 seconds of meeting.

Following the ABC selling process you will know that once
rapport has been established, relevant questions can then
be asked. Salespeople must discover why questions are so
important, the type of questions that should be asked and
how to respond to questions from the prospect or client
without giving free consulting.

Salespeople who follow the ABC process know the right
questions to ask and the importance of listening carefully
to the answers. It incorporates learning how to qualify
opportunities by setting parameters, uncovering buying
motivators, financial capabilities, decision making
processes and summarizing prior to making a proposal or
presentation. This type of selling process is referred to
here as a prescription.

Sales professionals utilize the ABC sales process to
prescribe solutions specific to the customer's
requirements. It allows the customer to buy, to retain the
account, to keep competitors out and to build up the
account to its maximum potential.

Once the prospect has purchased the solution, the
salespeople who abide by the ABC selling process will know
how to maintain the relationship, develop the account for
more business and obtain new prospect introductions and
referrals.

Small Business Advice: Is Your Marketing Upside-down?
When I first thought of how to market my business, ideas
for how to do it were things like.. print a brochure of
flier, run an ad, send out some postcards. But I later
discovered that's actually upside down and is the last of 3
steps in an effective marketing strategy.

Many marketing efforts fail because they don't follow the
right order of things. We often focus on the fancy glossy
brochures, and the image we project. I'm not against
creating an image, by the way, but for small business
owners, image is not the most important thing. We can leave
that to giant companies with colossal marketing budgets.
They can afford to focus countless dollars on
"image-marketing."

As small business owners, our marketing budgets are often
limited. So when we implement a marketing strategy, the
goal has to be "How can I get my ideal clients to take
action, respond, get to know me and my business, and choose
to do business with me?"

Logos and fancy brochures may get you some oohs and aahs
from friends, family, business acquaintances and even
prospects, but they are rarely set up to accomplish the
goal of increasing business.

From my experience, here's the most effective order of
things for implementing your marketing actions:

1) Who: When you think of marketing your business, the
first thing to think about is the profile of the person to
whom you are targeting - your target market. Who are they,
what's their greatest need in your area of expertise, and
how do they express that need. The answers are what you put
into your marketing.

2) What: And what you put into your marketing is the
message that is specifically tailored to your target
audience. That message must resonate so strongly with their
problems that they prompted into action. Action that makes
them pick up the phone, go to your web site, etc.

3) How: The how is the tool you use to convey the message
to your market. The tool or the media is the postcard, the
flyer, the ad, etc. If you do not first know your target
market, then the message will be weak which then makes the
tool/media ineffective. Often people say things like
"postcards don't work" when the marketing process actually
failed in steps 1 and 2 above.

When you finally get to step 3 where you are choosing the
tool to reach your target market, the question to ask is
"What action do I want them to take?" And your tool (flier,
postcard, ad, etc) must lead them directly into taking that
desired action. Don't leave it up to the reader to figure
it out. Specifically say things like "Call now for ...."
"Click here to..." "Go to for..." Always end with a "call
to action."

Key Questions For You:

* How can you get so crystal clear on the profile of your
ideal client that you're able to refine your message to
their specific problem so that you can then choose the best
tool to reach them?

* What's the specific action you want your prospect to take
and how can you make that action step crystal clear within
your marketing materials?

Leading Breakthroughs

If our organizations could produce breakthroughs, we would
all be enjoying exponential increases in results.  Did you
know that such breakthroughs often require a different
focus than making modest improvements?

How can we replace our improvement projects with
breakthrough progress?

Breakthroughs usually take the sweat and tears of many
people.  But those efforts won't bear fruit unless the
right mix of skills and experience is involved, properly
directed by exceptional leaders and by the right thought
process.

Let me put this advice in context: It's an important lesson
for those who want to make lots of 2,000 percent solutions
(ways of accomplishing 20 times more with the same time,
effort, and resources).

The steps for creating a 2,000 percent solution are listed
here:

1. Understand the importance of measuring performance.

2. Decide what to measure.

3. Identify the future best practice and measure it.

4. Implement beyond the future best practice.

5. Identify the ideal best practice.

6. Pursue the ideal best practice.

7. Select the right people and provide the right motivation.

8. Repeat the first seven steps.

This article looks at practicing to become more effective
in accomplishing step seven, select the right people and
provide the right motivation.

Recruit and Coach a Winning Team

People are the critical resource for any organization.
Without the right people, it's hard to exceed the future
best practice and approach the ideal best practice. Keep in
mind that few people, no matter how talented, function well
in a changing environment. Still fewer can work well on a
team instituting changes. One naysayer can discourage a
whole team. Someone who uses too much influence can stifle
others. You’re looking to create a rare and delicate
balance in your dream team of change makers.

Change? Over My Dead Body!

It might seem that the best way to implement any change is
to work with those who know the job best — those who
actually work with the process every day. But if big
changes are needed, this approach isn't always a good idea.
Use only the old crew and you are likely to run into a very
serious foot-dragging stall. Even the best workers lose
their perspective over time. Experimental evidence shows
that people new to a job have a much easier time with
understanding the need for and enjoying the pursuit of
changes. They can be taught whatever history they need to
know without being stalled by it. The current crew can play
devil's advocate — to keep the new team honest, as it
were. But don't hold their experience against the current
crew. Provide them with a new challenge in a different part
of the organization where they are unfamiliar with the
operations.

You need very capable relative strangers to take on a
change project, but they don't have to be people from
outside the organization. Look for as wide a range of
perspective, skills, and knowledge as you can.

Build a Dream Team

You must find people who are energized or excited by a
change. Your ideal team members must see change as a
challenge that will help them grow personally. Select team
members who will feel that being chosen to work on
approaching the ideal best practice is the most wonderful
thing that ever happened to them.

Beyond enthusiasm, what do you need? Open-mindedness. Take
a cue from Abraham Maslow and his concept of
self-actualization: what a person can be, he or she must be
(See Motivation and Personality [Harper, 1954]). Maslow
characterized the self-actualized, among other
characteristics, as displaying higher levels of:

• Efficient perceptions of reality

• Comfort with reality

• Accepting oneself, others, and nature

• Spontaneity

• Simplicity

• Naturalness

• Focus on problems outside themselves

• Detachment

• Preference for privacy

• Autonomy and independence from culture and
environment

• Freshness of appreciation and richness of feeling

• Transcendent experience

• Identification with mankind

• Deep interpersonal relations

• Preference for democratic processes

• Ability to differentiate between means and ends

• Nonhostile humor

• Creativity, originality, or inventiveness.

Maslow also spotted significant drawbacks among some of the
self-actualized who could be vain, irritating, cold,
uncritical, and overgenerous. Obviously, you should seek
team members who present the fewest of these drawbacks
… even at the risk of losing some creativity.

Don’t be restricted to Maslow's concept. People who
can adapt rapidly to unexpected problems are even more
valuable because they point the group in a new direction
when everyone else is stuck. You can spot these people by
asking them how they solved seemingly impossible problems
in the past.

Is There a Leader in the House?

Naturally, choosing the right team leader makes a big
difference in your results. Look for a leader who shares
the enthusiasm of each team member and knows how to harness
that enthusiasm. In addition, you want someone who places
the interests of the team and the organization ahead of any
desire to exercise power as top dog.

Avoid borrowing a leader from another organization (whether
they be consultants or outsourced service providers). Such
outsiders will have a harder time reflecting the values of
those they lead. If you cannot find an appropriate leader
in your organization, be sure to hire someone who will help
create the excitement necessary to bring off major changes
and who matches your company's values as closely as
possible.

Four leadership qualities determine success:

1. Shared values with the organization

2. Understanding the problems thoroughly before beginning
the mission

3. Ability to persuade others that the project will succeed

4. Skills relevant to the task.

If your top candidate is in good shape except for skills,
consider how you could use some training to fill in those
gaps. It's easier to fill in for ignorance than for a lack
of values.
